Simon's got a pretty good idea. I don't know how long it will be like this but for the time being at least bestbuy.com has been purchased by someone else. I should know, I just went there.

Unix servers running FreeBSD. FTP, HTTP, SNTP, POP3, NetBIOS, SNMP ports are open and the watchtower.org website itself is on a Apache/1.3.27 OpenSSL/0.9.6g (Unix) PHP/4.1.2 on FreeBSD. Their IP address is 130.94.149.224 but their servers are most likely contained offsite at Verio's NOC.
See people, 5 minutes and I was able to get all that info on their site because I know where to look and what to do.

That's not really any big information and is available on any website out there (this one included). Now, if you really want to be good, find out some information such as where the servers are physically located and/or any information about what they're running. Its possible and I did it about a year ago but I'll leave that fun to you all.

Alternatives to JWs
by Xander insince there are new people coming to this board on fairly regular basis with questions about the jw religion, i thought i'd pose this topic.. many, upon leaving the organization, don't really know where to turn for guidance.
"look to yourself" doesn't really cut it when you've been told how to think your whole life.. many choose atheism, which is fine.
however, for those still looking for a religion, here is a site that lists many of the worlds major religious movements.

It has nothing to do with anything Xander. Nanceepark here just likes to spread their crap on topics that may have the tiniest bit of similarity.

My Mother &" The Faithful & Discre...
by minimus inlately, my mother keeps talking about how so many are appreciative of the "faithful & discreet slave class".
we got into a discussion that prompted me to tell her that there is no such thing as the faithful slave class and that it was all an invention of rutherford because the first "faithful slave" was dead.
so now everthing is a slave.

Why not mail your mom a copy of this even as others have been doing:
Because life sucks enough without forwarding spam like this on to people who couldn't care less about it. -

by Jesus Christ inseeing as i'm not very good at this whole "savior of the world" thing i'm giving it up and going into the computer networking field.

Ah, come on now Reborn!! Haven't you heard? I'm not exactly very good at this whole "son of god" bit. In case you haven't noticed, I've really been pretty ineffective at it. If I can't do something as simple as ending baldness how I am I supposed to know who lives where? I mean, really, what exactly have I done for any of you? Also, the place I'm going to be working is about a half mile from the mall. Its a consulting firm with around 40 or so employees, mostly geeks, sales people, and office support folks.
Lastly, I'm as real as the Jesus talked about in the bible. That's just exactly how much of a gag this is!

Hi there everyone. Seeing as I'm not very good at this whole "savior of the world" thing I'm giving it up and going into the computer networking field. Obviously, there's not much work up here in heaven so I'm having to come down and join you silly mortals. I'll be moving to Louisville, KY. Anybody from there that would want to have a little apostafest or something like that? I'll be living near Bardstown Rd. and the Waterson expressway and working near the Mall of St. Mathews. Hope to see some of you soon!

Filing a Lawsuit to see my granddaughter
by Nancy K inhi everyone, hoping you're having a good day...i am a "newbie", posted before (re: missing my granddaughter)..well, i have been thinking long and hard, and then long and harder still and i've decided to start a suit to see if i can get grandparent visitation to see my dearly-loved "chloe" who is 6 years old.
my husband is an attorney(not chloe's grandfather) and he wants to take them on, after seeing what 2 years of being cut-off from her, has put me through.
i have an illness, and the stress of missing chloe of course makes me feel worse.

JT,
I agree with everything you said about what the JW's teach children about their non-JW relatives and many people here saw that first hand and are way too familiar with it but I still don't think grandparents' wishes to see their grandchildren should outweigh the wishes of the child's parents to keep them away.
Many people here would be ready to tar and feather a person if they were a JW and were trying to sue their children so that they could take the grandkids to the meetings. Like it or not (or even hate as I do) but JW's have made their choice to be a JW and live that life and it should be respected. Let the JW's tell the children how their families who aren't JW's are going to be destroyed. All it will do is let the children see how horrible the JW's are when they grow up.
As far as the arguemnet goes that just because JW grandparents try to sue so that they may take the grandkids to the meetings so you should too is a bad arguement. The JW's try to tell children that their non-JW family is horrible and god will destroy them. Would you go tell children that god hates their JW family and will destroy them for believing as they do?

I know I'm going to be blasted for this but I don't think what you're doing is right if for nothing else than what it could mean for others. Like it or not parents have a right to say who can be around their children and who can't. I know many people here wouldn't want their parents to take them to JW events or even be exposed to that stuff. I do agree with you that you should be able to see your grand daughter, especialy since you are the better enviroment here, but the fact of the matter is that Chloe's parents are the ones that should say who their daughter can be around. If you win other people could be sued to make their children be available to their grandparents who are JW's or in even more dangerous cults.
Chloe's parents don't want you around. True, you are her GRANDmother but you are not her mother and the mother's wish is what should be honored. Parents have their rights, even when they're the wrong ones.

Who is onthego?
by Jesus Christ inreading some of their posts sounds a lot like another person that got kicked off the board.. look at it, they've only been around since nov. 26. another person got kicked off a day or two before that.. look at their very first posts.
not exactly "hi, i'm new here and wondering about some stuff i've heard.".
anyone else notice that their last few posts have been the exact same thing?

Wow, nice to see that I'm not the only one!!!!!!! (breaths a sigh of relief) I just read where Prisca made a comment about this and was so incredibly happy to see I'm not totally out of my mind here.
I started this in the hopes that I'm wrong and I do sincerely hope that I am. Again, my deepest apologies to onthego if I'm wrong but this person was kicked off of here for a reason and it doesn't appear as if they've changed, at all. It may be just the actions of a newbie and if so please forgive me but even other people are having the same thoughts as me. Any clarification from someone who would know (Simon, onthego) should be able to clear this little misunderstanding and I hope that they'll be able to do so soon.
Dad bless you all!
